Mr. William Marinan

October 28, 1917 — October 5, 2011

William M. Marinan
William Michael Marinan, age 93, formerly of Rome, New York, and Grandview, MO, passed away Wednesday, 5 October, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born 28 October 1917, to the late Anna Elizabeth and William Michael Marinan in Brooklyn, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Rita Marinan. He is survived by four children: son Bob Marinan, wife Cathy, grandchildren Kyle, Marissa, and Kaylee of Niceville, FL; son Mike Marinan, wife Sara, grandchildren Shane, Michele, and Timothy, Longwood, FL; daughter Cathy Marinan, grandchild Katelyn, Lee's Summit, Mo; son Tom Marinan, Cindy Marinan, grandchild Dayna, Lee's Summit, Mo. Raised as an only child, he was most proud of the "brood" that he and our mother raised. Bill was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps and US Air Force. He served in both the African and Pacific theaters, including the Panama Canal, retiring as a Lt Col in the Air Force Reserves. He often told the story of transporting old "Blood & Guts" Gen Patton from Africa to Europe, ivory grip pistols and all. Bill also spent over 30 years in support of the government civil service at both Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY and Richards Gebaur AFB in Belton, Mo until his retirement in 1977. We have lost a great Dad, Grandfather, and with him, a wonderful sense of humor. Visitation will be Saturday, 15 October, from 9:30-10:30AM at our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Mo., with funeral services at 10:30AM. Burial will be at Longview Memorial Gardens following the funeral service. D. W. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
