Wayne Irvin Highland, Jr., 63, of Independence, MO passed away March 25, 2018.

Wayne was born on September 17, 1954 to Wayne Highland, Sr. and JoAnn Highland in Kingsville, Texas.

Wayne was a physicist, a writer, an artist, a son, a brother, a husband, and a father. Above all else Wayne was a Christian. Wayne lived to serve all whom he met through programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Gillis Center, Solace House, as both Youth and Senior Minister of Ridgeview Christian Church for 13 years, as well as those he passed by on the street, met in stores, and rode with in cabs. Wayne “never met a stranger”, and deeply loved every friend he made.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Jacob and Erin Highland, and their mother, Beth Highland; and his sister, Patricia Highland.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd at 6:00 pm, with a visitation one hour prior to service at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. Memorial contributions are suggested to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City, 1709 Walnut St, Kansas City, MO 64108.
