Tomye "Cauley" Herrod

August 2, 1938 — February 27, 2017

Tomye Lea McCauley (Cauley) was born to the late Tom McCauley and Amanda McCauley on August 2, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the first of three children. Her siblings were: Gladys Ann (deceased) and Vernon.

Cauley received her education in Guthrie and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Faver High School in 1955.

Cauley was introduced to her husband, James Leon Herrod (Pookie), by a friend at a football game their senior year of high school (1955). Cauley and Pookie met again in the fall of 1955 at Langston College. They attended Langston College on music scholarships and were both members of the band.

Cauley was married to Pookie for sixty loving years and out of this union they were blessed with five adoring children: Debra, James, Jr., Anthony, Michael, and Michele. Her passion was her marriage and her family. Cauley’s favorite activity was spending time with her adoring husband and children. She also enjoyed gardening, as well as listening to the blues and jazz music.

Left to cherish her memory is a devoted and loving husband, James Leon Herrod; daughter, Debra Lynn Taylor and son-in-law, Jeffrey Taylor; son, James Leon Herrod, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lillian Herrod; son, Anthony Lamar Herrod and daughter-in-law, Karen Herrod; son, Michael Leonard Herrod; and daughter, Michele Lenise Herrod; and her brother, Vernon McCauley. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4th from 10:00 – 11:00 am, with the service following at 11:00 am, all at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggestions you make a donation to a local Alzheimer’s Association or a charitable organization of your choice.
