Thomas Bates

January 1, 1934 — February 19, 2022

Thomas Dean Bates, 88, of Grandview Missouri, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 19, 2022, while surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma Lea Bates, his son Doug Bates and his wife Donna Bates, his daughter Linda Thompson and her husband Tim Thompson, his granddaughters Taylor Thompson, Bailey Thompson and Layne Thompson and his great grandson Gavin Taylor.

His death was preceded by his brother David Bates and his sister Diane Basquette.

Tom was born in Independence Missouri to Francis and Thomas Bates on New Year’s Day 1934.  Raised in Independence he attended and graduated from William Chrisman Highschool and went on to receive a degree in Engineering from University of Missouri, Rolla.  He retired from engineering in 1977 and went on to start avery successful home marketing business.  Tom was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who spent many years of his life pastoring the Community of Christ Church in Grandview, MO.

His hobbies included sports, travel and church activities.

Although we are happy that Tom has now gone home to be with the Lord, he will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
