Ruth Ackerson

R. Maxine Ackerson, 91, Raymore, MO passed away March 8, 2021.   A Celebration of Maxine’s Life will be held this summer after COVID restrictions are lifted.

Maxine was born November 16, 1929 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Harmon and Eula (Bazzell) Finney.  She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Central High School in 1947.  Maxine married Bob Ackerson in July, 1948. They made their home in the Kansas City area until the purchase of their small farm in 1976 outside Drexel, Missouri.  “The Farm” was a weekend destination for all the family and friends with special weekends throughout the year.  Maxine enjoyed cooking and entertaining her large family and many friends.  Her legacy will continue in the loving family she created.  Maxine joined the staff at Ruskin High School in 1970 and also worked in the Administration Center for Hickman Mills School District retiring in 1992.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, brother, H. N. Finney, Jr., her sister, Jane Williams, her son-in-law, Mark Spears and is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Bob.  She is survived by Bob’s and her greatest source of pride, their children:  Gayle Spears, Craig, Todd and Kurt Ackerson; her grandchildren:  Holly, Laura, Melissa, Scott, Chandra, Kip, Drew and step-grandson, Parker; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wayside Waifs or to any “no kill” animal shelter.
