Roger Thomure

Roger Clyde Thomure, 72, of Lee’s Summit, passed away on November 15, 2024.

Roger was born September 6, 1952, the only child of Mildred (Cureton) and Clyde Thomure. He was a 1970 graduate of Webster Groves High School and received a BS in Political Science from the University of Missouri in 1974. Roger spent his career working for the State of Missouri in many different capacities, most recently for the Department of Mental Health.

In August of 1973, while at MU, he met Kathy Staples, and they married in August of 1976, first living in St. Louis and then moving to Kansas City in 1977. In 1989 they built their home in Lee’s Summit, where they raised their children.

Roger enjoyed spending time at Longview Lake, first as a runner and then walking the trails. He used his own experience of playing soccer and football to coach both of his children as they played youth sports and never missed a game, band concert, or competition as they were growing up. He loved visiting zoos and animals of all kinds, especially caring for his own pet cats and birds throughout the years. Roger enjoyed playing computer games, watching movies, listening to music, and sharing his love for fine arts and ballet with his family. Christmas trips to see the Nutcracker were a family tradition.

Roger is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 48 years; his daughter, Whitney; his son, Blake; his wife, Mariana; his mother and father-in-law, Donna and Donald Staples; and brother-in-law, Greg Staples.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20, from 12 pm-1 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1 pm, all at Longview Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Longview Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House.
