Robert James Wood

Robert James “Bob” Wood, 75, of Lee’s Summit, passed away January 31, 2025. A private gathering will be held at Longview Funeral Home.

Bob was born on April 18, 1949, to William and Dolores (Steffens) Wood in Evergreen Park, Illinois, where he grew up and attended schools. He lived in Tinley Park, Illinois before his wandering spirit led him to move to Colorado and eventually settle in Lee’s Summit in 1986. Bob retired from the United States Postal Service after over 30 years of service.

Bob was intelligent and curious, and liked to research how to do things, like building his family’s first computer in the 1980’s. He enjoyed playing computer games and was also a self-taught artist and guitar player. Bob loved everything football, even coaching a semi pro team during his time in Colorado, and watching lots of games on TV in the off-season.

Bob married his beloved wife, Christine, in January of 1971, and she survives him; he is also survived by his children: Jason Wood (wife, Amanda) of Colorado Springs; Shelly Bruemmer (husband, Ben Tinkler) of Redondo Beach, CA; and Jenny Grosskopf (husband, Daniel) of Lee’s Summit; grandson, Logan Wood (Brittany) and step grandsons, Nelson Grosskopf (wife, Irene) and Nathan Grosskopf. Bob is also survived by one brother, Rich Wood (wife, Chris) of Ankeny, IA; a sister, Barb Bennett, of Ankeny, IA; a sister-in-law, Mary Wood of Peru, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members. He also leaves his beloved kitty, Trixie.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dolores; a brother, Bill Wood; a son-in-law, Scotty Bruemmer; and a brother-in-law, Jim Bennett.

Bob left an impact on everyone he met, and he will be dearly missed.
