Robert D. Johnson, 84, of Grandview, Mo., passed away on August 16, 2023 in Kansas City, Mo.
Robert Dale Johnson was born January 25, 1939 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of LeRoy L. Johnson and Stella G. Mann. He graduated from Paseo High School and attended the Junior College of Kansas City. In 1958, he began work for Milgram Food Stores, where he remained for forty-two years.
His career was interrupted only by two years of service in the U.S. Army, from 1962 to 1964. He served as a private first class with the 37th Engr. Gp., Hq Co., and was stationed in Hanau, Germany, where he helped prepare for President Kennedy’s visit there on June 25, 1963. He later served as a specialist with the 299th Engr. Bn., Co. B, at Fort Gordon, Ga.
On November 30, 1990, he married Blanch C. Cole (née Rhodes), who preceded him in death on July 9, 2019.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and managing his rental properties.
In addition to his wife, Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly L. O’Brien, of Roeland Park, Kan. He is survived by seven nieces and nephews; one stepson, James R. Terrell, Jr.; and other extended family.
Services will be private, with interment in Longview Cemetery.
