Richard Johnson, 75, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away February 1, 2020.
Richard was born on March 2, 1944 in Compton, California to Kenneth Richard Johnson and Margaret V. (Darling) Johnson. He grew up in Southern California and spent many of his childhood summers at his grandparent’s home in Oregon, where he and his brother, Russell, enjoyed the outdoors and the many benefits of having a grandfather who owned a sporting goods store, including getting to sell fireworks! Richard was a free spirit, living in various places around the country, including California, Oregon, Florida, Kansas, before finally settling in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a Navy Veteran, serving in the Vietnam era from 1964-1968, and was a member of the American Legion.
Richard never had much, but what he had, he shared with others. He was a foster parent, was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and attended World Revival Church.
Survivors include his brother, Russell Johnson, and two daughters, Carolyn and Patricia.
No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions in Richard’s name are suggested to Meals on Wheels.
