Mother Pearline Lee (Coleman) Thornton, 86 was born, June 24, 1929 in Butler, Alabama to the late Henry and Arie Mae Coleman. She departed this life, Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Wilshire at Lakewood care facility, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Pearl was proceeded in death by her parents; one brother, Willie D. Coleman; and two sons, one at birth, and Donald Ray McCain.
Pearl attended and graduated from East Highland High School, in Sylacauga, Alabama, she was an active participant in school and served as a member of the Class and Science Clubs.
In 1949, Pearl was united in marriage to Thomas Samuel McCain (deceased), to this union five children were born. Thomas and Pearl, relocated from Alabama to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951, where she lived the remainder of her life. Upon her arrival to Kansas City, Pearl furthered her relationship in Christ by becoming a longstanding member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Edwardsville, Kansas where she served as a Sunday Instructor, member of choir and in numerous ministries.
Pearl began her career at Hall’s, a division of Hallmark Cards, Inc., in 1966, where she retired as a Merchandise Receiver after 25 years of service.
On October 25, 1975, Pearl married the love of life, Zeak T. Thornton. Zeak and Pearl relocated to Grandview, Missouri in 1979, and shortly after united in ministry with Second Missionary Baptist Church/Touch of Grace Ministries, INTL. Pearl had a passion for serving the Lord and her church family. Pearl served as Chairman, Food Pantry; President, Mission Board; President, Mother Board; Lydian Women; Sunday School Instructor, primary department; Nursing Home Outreach Ministry; Prayer Praise Watchman and a host of other ministries. Pearl loved and church family.
Pearl enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, and shopping. Pearl was known for her fashion forwardness, and love of hats.
Pearl is survived by her husband, Zeak; four sons, Larry McCain (Darlene Fuller), Independence, MO; Anthony McCain (Carolyn), Bruce Thornton, Kansas City, MO; Wallace Thornton (Valire), Lee’s Summit, MO; one daughter, Janice McConnell (Cleve), Kansas City, KS; (16) grandchildren; (16) great-grandchildren and (1) great-great- grandchild; six siblings, Anne Gamble, John Coleman (Catherine), Roosevelt (Virginia), Simmie (Genie) of Youngstown, OH; Shirley Green and Daisy Mae Oden of Sylacauga, AL. and a host additional family members and loved ones.
