Ms. Mayo was born September 1, 1937, in Humansville, MO. She was born and raised in Humansville. After her marriage to Wayne Truitt, they moved to the Kansas City, MO area and that union produced three children. Her parents and sisters followed thereafter, and later she married Billy Mayo, and they had two children. She worked as a server for most of her working life, most recently at The Brooksider, and then after retirement worked at Booth Manor for several years, then as a Foster Grandparent at Ingels Elementary School, which she truly enjoyed.
She loved animals and had several dogs and cats throughout her life. Her most beloved was Shortcake, her Yorkie/Poo mix who lived to a ripe old age.
Prior to her retirement she loved being outdoors by the pool and cooking out with her neighbors. She also loved doing ceramics with her daughter Donna and had a great eye for color and detail. She also did flower arranging and cake decorating in addition to her ceramic work. After retiring she moved to a senior community where she loved taking care of her flowers and continued to make ceramics until her eyesight made it too challenging. She loved doing crossword puzzles and going to the clubhouse with her friends and socializing while they put jigsaw puzzles together. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and getting together for the holidays. Her specialties were deviled eggs and spicy pork burritos, as well as her chili.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Opal Mitchem, sister Anna Lee Routh, son Bill Mayo and grandson Shawn Maloney.
