Nathan B. (Mike) Ferman passed peacefully on May 31, 2019 at KC Hospice House. He was born in Wichita, KS on September 17, 1935. He served in the Army as a Photo Interpreter in Germany. Upon returning to the US, he finished his education at Wichita State University and took a position in Lamar, MO in 1964. While at Lamar, he met Margaret Burkholder and they were married June 1, 1966 in Wichita, KS. Afterward, the two moved to the Kansas City area, where Mike taught art at Ruskin High School from 1966 to 1991. He also taught evening art classes at Longview College. He was a cartoonist, published in several national magazines and an avid painter. His hobbies included photography, reading, and writing poetry.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Myrtle (Volz) Ferman; and his brother, Richard Ferman. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; his son, Christopher; sister, Marilyn (and husband, Rod) Pierce; brother, David (and wife, Anita) Ferman; sister-in-law, Lida Ferman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 SE Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO on Friday, June 7th at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145 or The Salvation Army of Kansas City, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City MO 64111.
