It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Leroy Vaught, who left us on July 20th, 2024, at the age of 36.
Michael was born on February 11th, 1988, in Kansas City, Missouri, to parents Mike and Rhonda Vaught. He was a cherished son, a veteran staff sergeant of the US Marines, and he went on to become a third-generation owner of Larry Vaught Roofing while also starting his own business. From a young age, he discovered a love for baseball, Star Wars, and video games. His favorite television show growing up was Inspector Gadget, and his fascination with gadgets never waned. Among his prized possessions were a high-tech drone, with which he captured breathtaking aerial views, and a state-of-the-art barbecue smoker. His passion for gadgets was a reflection of his aptitude for mechanics, and his talent for building and repairing things. It was proven that he had a photographic memory, and his intelligence was invaluable in all of his endeavors.
Michael's adventurous spirit led to countless weekends spent four-wheeling over rugged terrains, sharing his contagious laughter with friends. His quirky habit of putting Tabasco Sauce on everything he ate was a testament to his zest for excitement in all aspects of life. He was loyal, caring, and generous to his family and friends, who love and miss him deeply.
Michael is survived by his parents, Mike and Rhonda Vaught; sister, Amy Vaught; grandmothers, Lucy Vaught and Carolyn Jones; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and cats, Copa and Kocho. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Mary Jones; and grandfathers, Robert Jones and Larry Vaught.
Funeral services for Michael L. Vaught will be held Saturday, August 10th, 2024 at Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery: 12700 Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Services from 2:30 to 3:30, with graveside military service to follow at 3:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Military Veteran Project at www.militaryveteranproject.org.
Rest in peace, Michael. Your spirit continues to ride on every trail, and your laughter echoes in our hearts forever.
