Michael Hange

Michael Nicholas Hange, 95, went home to be with the Lord on June 27, 2021.  Services will be at Longview Funeral Home on July 2 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and the Service following at 2:00 p.m. Contributions in honor of Michael can be made to Integrity Home Care and Hospice whose nurses and caregivers made it possible for him to stay with family until he entered Heaven.

Michael was born on March 14, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio to Greek immigrants Nicholas & Maria Hange.  He was a hard-working man who worked the sponge boats in Tarpon Springs, the steel mills in Youngstown, and construction in New Hampshire.  He also teamed with his wife to sell Greek food, pizza crusts and pastries at a restaurant and farmers markets in Missouri.  He enlisted in the United States Navy on his 18th birthday and served in the Philippine islands during World War II as a mail clerk until the end of the war.

Michael was married to Georgia Hatzismalis for 56 years and has two children, Maria, and Timothy. After moving from Youngstown, Ohio, he lived mostly in Missouri with several years spent in Greece and Australia.  In each place, he was known for being a strong and hard worker—a man deeply committed to attending church and reading his Bible. Recently when reflecting on his life, he commented to his pastor, “Thank God…. I have so much going for me!” In this statement, you can appreciate the fullness of his life…a simple faith, a contentment in each circumstance, and an appreciation for those around him.

Michael is survived by his wife Georgia Hange, his daughter Maria Hange Romanas and her husband John, as well as his son Timothy and his wife Karen.  His grandchildren include Christos Romanas, Timothy Romanas, Peter Romanas and his wife Sierra, Alisha Hange Joyce and her husband Andrew, Stephen Hange and his wife Rebekah, Anastasia Hange, and Evan Hange.
