Melvin Johnson Jr.

Melvin Lee Johnson Jr. departed this earthly life January 31, 2022, at the age of 65.

Melvin was born October 31st, 1956, in Kansas City MO to Phyllis Joyce Johnson and Melvin (Ted) Johnson Sr.  Melvin was educated in the Kansas City and Northern California Public School Systems.  He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1974.

Melvin met the love of his life “Kimberly Winfrey” in the winter of 1975.  They would later marry on June 25th, 1977, at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.  From this union 2 sons were born Melvin L Johnson III (Jessica) and Milan Johnson (Krista).

Melvin leaves his wife of 44 years, 2 sons, 5 grandchildren, Makiyah, Jevin, Darius, Jasmine, and Rayleah.  He also leaves his sister, Kim Tubbs-Dyson (George) and his brother, Robert Johnson (Earleen).  He leaves 2 Aunts, Roberta Gayden and Ella Maples of Lee’s Summit and Kansas City and a host of other family members and friends.

Melvin was God-fearing, family loving, funny, a great cook and barbecuer!  We will miss him greatly!

Services will be held on Saturday February 12th, at Bannister Road Baptist Church, located at 7503 Bannister Road at 11:30am.

There will be a viewing on Friday February 11th from 2-5pm at Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12700 Southeast Raytown Road, Kansas City MO, 64134.
