Mark Edward McCoy was born in Winner, SD, on December 10, 1933 to Vera Jane Winslow McCoy and Carroll Maurice McCoy. He passed away on December 18, 2007 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO. He began his education in Holdrege, NE, and graduated from Norfolk High School in Norfolk, NE in 1951. Mark studied electrical engineering and business administration at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE, where he was a member of Theta XI. His attendance at NU was interrupted by his two year service in the US Army from 1955-1957. Mark married Hilda "Anne" Olson on July 4, 1959 at St. Cecelia's Cathedral, Our Lady of Nebraska Chapel, in Omaha, NE. They were blessed with two children, Mary Susan "Molly" Koenig and Charles Mark "Charley" McCoy. He was an avid reader, Cornhusker fan and golfer, but his first love was his family. Mark was a member of the Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church and he felt at home with his loving church family even as the dementia took his social skills. He served on the church council and also as an usher. Mark facilitated the "How to Cope" course at the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, and served as chairman of the Central Office. After retirement, he volunteered at the Truman Library and Museum and played golf with 15 other gentlemen who called themselves "GEMS" (Golf Every Monday) Mark's business career included sales positions with Hallmark, Graybar Electric, Rossner Electric and Western Extralite. He retired in 1999 from the Western Extralite Co. after 20 years of service. Mark was grateful to the Isenberg family for believing in him. Mark is survived by his wife, Anne, daughter and son-in-law Molly and Bob Koenig and their children, Susan, Amanda and Thomas Koenig, all of Tucson, AZ, son and daughter-in-law, Charley and Tracey McCoy, Blue Springs, MO, step-grandson, Kevin Oldfield, brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Mary McCoy, Omaha, NE, sister-in-law Susan Shipley, Lincoln, NE, and brother- in-law Henry Olson and his wife Karen Carlson-Olson, Albany, CA, and many nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Herbert Olson, half-brother, Jim Dischner, half sister, Jodine Dischner Kelley and her husband Jim and brothers-in-law Jim Carson and Al Shipley. The family wishes to thank the entire staff and volunteers at the Missouri Veterans Home for the loving care Mark received since July 12, 2006. Thank you to the Crossroads Hospice staff who lovingly cared for Mark since November 8, 2007. Anne appreciates the Alzheimer's Association staff and the invaluable help of her support group. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 28 at the Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church, 5757 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29 at the church.
