Mrs. Lucy Barreto

January 16, 1919 — January 8, 2008

Luz (Lucha) Genara Vega de Barreto died on January 11, 2008 in Lee?s Summit, Missouri. Lucha, as she was known to her friends and family, was born in Piura, Peru South America, on January 16, 1919. She married Abelardo Barreto Luzon on December 30, 1939, who preceded her in death. Lucha was a spirited woman, known for her kindness and gentle nature. As an avid traveler she enjoyed excursions to foreign lands-from Central America to Africa, she had no hesitation when embarking on a new adventure. Similarly, in 1962 Lucha embarked on a voyage to the United States, which eventually became her home. While in Peru, Lucha owned and taught at an elementary school. In the United States she owned a beauty salon.
A loving, caring mother, Lucha loved her children and was a second mother to all her grandchildren. She opened her heart and home to friends and strangers alike, and took pride in the fact that throughout her lifespan she had thirty-two guests from around the world.
