Louisa E. Van Horne (Pickett), 65, a long-time resident of Grandview, MO passed away January 15, 2020 at her home.
Louisa was born January 25, 1954 and raised in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Loretto in Kansas City, Longview Community College with an A.A. in Business, and Friends University with a B.A. in Organizational Management and Leadership. She was listed among the Who’s Who in American Colleges, and was a member of the Fort Osage Historical Society, Navy Relief Society, National Wildlife Association, Natural Resources Defense Council, Phi Theta Kappa International Society where she served as the Missouri State President, and the Senior Vice-President for the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. Louisa taught for many years for Child Evangelism Fellowship and was an instructor of Basic First-Aid Training.
Louisa retired from the Mid-Continent Public Library after 28 years of service, completing her tenure at the Midwest Genealogy Center. Her hobbies included reading, singing, Feng Shui, learning something new, and loving her family above all else.
Louisa is preceded in death by her husband Willard “Van” Van Horne, her parents William and Ruth Pickett, and grandchild Samuel Cross IV.
Upon marrying Willard “Van” Van Horne in 1978, she opened her arms and heart to her new blended family. She is survived by her children from an earlier marriage Heather (Kenneth) Kopas and Lee Alan (Sonya) Van Horne, Sr., and by Van’s children Carolyn (Samuel) Cross, Janice Van Horne, and Sandra (Terrance “Terry”) Harris; her grandchildren Lee Alan Van Horne, Jr., Elaine Van Horne, Samuel Cross III, Jared Cross, Ashley Coussens, Christopher Coussens, Terrance “Matt” Harris, Jr., Zachary Harris, Madelyn Harris; and great-grandchildren Samuel Eugene Cross IV, Addison Cross, Will Bennet Cross, Ben Huburt Cross, and Charley Rose Coussens. She is also survived by her siblings Anola (Peter Doyle) Pickett, William (Marilyn) Pickett, Terry (Johnny) Pickett, Mary (Robert) Vincent, and Thomas (Sarah) Pickett.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 10:00-11:00a.m. at Abundant Life Church, 414 S.E. Persels Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Funeral services will follow at 11:00a.m. and the burial will be immediately following the service at the Longview Cemetery, 12700 S.E. Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the University of Kansas Health System via the Turning Point program for patients in need.
