Lillie Mae Myers

August 23, 1934 — February 24, 2025

Lee's Summit

On February 24, 2025, Lillie Mae Myers was called home to be reunited with her husband, Sam, and her daughter, Judy, in heaven.

Born Lillie Mae Miller on August 23, 1934, to Lillian and Herman in Damar, Kansas, everyone knew her as Grandma, whether you were a child, grandchild or friend. She was married to the love of her life, Harold “Sam” Myers for over 59 years.  They built a beautiful family of three children, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Before finally settling in Grandview MO in the early 1970s, Sam and Lillie spent time raising their three children living on Air Force Bases in Salina, Puerto Rico, Tampa Bay, Charleston, and North Dakota. The family enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, the state fair and watching Sam’s band play, among many other activities.  In 1982, Sam and Lillie built a log cabin on a 22-acre farm in Cleveland, Missouri. Spending time on the farm during retirement allowed the couple to raise a variety of animals including cows, chickens, geese, rabbits and guineas. When they weren’t traveling around in their RV visiting family, they worked hard to provide a safe and loving place to let the grandchildren explore and have outdoor adventures. The kids would play in the creek and run around the farm with freedom until grandma called from the front porch and you had better be able to hear her the first time. She always made every grandchild feel special with an abundance of love and hugs. And she never let you leave without saying, ‘I love you”.

Sam and Lillie moved to Kansas City in 2010.  In May of 2013, Sam went to live with the Lord. After her husband’s death, Lillie continued to maintain her own household for the next decade. She was a tough woman and provided countless years of love for her family. The next generation of great grandchildren gave her the opportunity to do it all over again. A visit to grandma’s house always meant making a mess, watching cartoons, building forts and permission to eat ice cream any time of the day. Anything went at grandma’s house. Her priorities were laughter and love and nothing else mattered.

Lillie changed the lives of everyone she touched. Her example of being independent and strong bordered on stubborn but has become a family trait. She taught us to love and be loved, to never take anyone for granted and to always let someone know how much they mean to you. She was selfless, everyone else always came first, never asking for anything in return, but her family was so grateful for all she did and knew what we had. Her legacy is her family. We are all blessed that God gave us grandma.

Lillie is preceded in death by her father Herman, mother Lillian, brothers Herman and Jimmy Miller, her husband Harold “Sam” Myers, daughter Judith Giannini, and daughter-in-law Carol Myers. She leaves behind her sons Samuel (Susan) Myers, Kenneth (Debbie) Myers, (Gale Holsman and Samuel Giannini) grandchildren: Jason (Robyn) Holsman, Shannon(Jake) Lock, Samantha (Chris) Copeland, Kevin Myers, Jesse Myers, Chris (Stefanie) Myers, Dan (Courtney) Myers, Ryan Myers, Justin (Lauren) Hitchens, Adam (Baylee) Hitchens, Laura (Chad) Parker and 15 great grandchildren.
