Lawrence "Larry" Pruitt

October 29, 1928 — April 28, 2021

Lawrence Arthur Pruitt, 92, of Grandview, Missouri passed away April 28th, 2021. Services will be Wednesday May 5, 2021 Visitation will begin at 9:30AM, Service at 10:30AM followed by graveside all taking place at Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery: 12700 SE Raytown Rd, Kansas City, Mo 64149.

Larry was born on October 29, 1928 the middle son of Charles and Dora Pruitt in Kansas City, Missouri. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1946 and traveled to several foreign countries during his four-year service career. Upon his discharge he joined his parents in Nevada, Missouri working several jobs till finally settling with the Nevada daily mail newspaper. It was during this time that he met and married Patsy McMillen. He and Patsy had Four Children: Gregory, Constance, Terry, and Jeffrey.

In 1953 the family returned to Kansas City where Larry went to work for General Motors in the Fairfax District of Kansas. Then in 1956 he Joined the Kansas City Police Department working for over 28 years for the force. He worked in several units however his true calling arrived when he began his 20 years within the investigation’s division as a detective. Being a very detailed person, he earned numerous department citations for many of the assignments he pursued.

Upon his retirement in 1984 he and Patsy began a new career in the craft business. With Patsy at the sewing machine and Larry working with wood they created many beautiful items. After spending several years traveling and selling their many wares at various Malls throughout a four-state area, Patsy became ill and passed away in 1987.

Never being one to sit and do-nothing Larry joined the Lake Lotawana Police Department, working part time. It was at this time he met his second wife Pam. Pam owned many rental properties which kept both busy but, never too busy to travel whenever they could find the time. Although their lives separated, they always remained close friends.

Larry was Preceded in Death by his parents, Brothers John Vincent, and Walter Lee and his first wife Patsy. He is survived by his children Gregory Pruitt, Constance Andreasen (Bill), Terry, and Jeffrey; Sister-in-Law Linda Needham, Friend and Former wife Pam Pruitt, Many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
