Karen Hogan

Karen Sue Hogan, 81, of ‪Kansas City, MO passed away on April 17, 2020.

Karen was born on February 23,1939, in Wellington, KS to Raymond and Birdie Berg. She moved to Leavenworth, KS to pursue a career in nursing. Karen worked as a registered nurse at Children’s Mercy in the cranial reconstruction unit and then for many years at a private practice and home health, where she made many friends. She was very talented: she loved working with her hands, enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting clothes for all the children. Karen was known for her delicious peanut brittle, fudge, and toffee. She even began selling her confections through the Jones store, which eventually led to her launching her own business, Suzy’s Sweet Time Kitchen. Having a passion for music, she was a gifted singer and pianist, and even played the baritone horn in school. Karen loved to sing and participate in her church choir. She also prepared the baptisms at both Community Christian Church and Metropolitan Missionary Baptist. She had a strong spirit, surviving breast cancer twice. Karen and Jewel always enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. They had a great passion to decorate the garden in the summer (some may even say they had the best yard in the neighborhood). Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Birdie Berg; her brother, Kent Berg, Cheryl Berg, and DeAnn Eggers. Karen will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, Jewel Hogan; siblings, Garth and Marla Berg; daughter, Kristen Mosier, son, Kirt Mosier and wife, Lori, and son, Jon Mosier; grandchildren, Brooks and Kacie Mosier, Morgan McAnany and Brett Niehubr, Trent and Megan Mosier, Madison and Dustin Ulrich, Quinn and Madison Mosier, Molly Mosier, and Andrew Mosier; great grandchildren, Hadlie and Heidi Mosier, Jewel Niebuhr, Jackson Ulrich, and Conrad Niebuhr (born this fall). Karen also had many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.

Her family was blessed to have her in their lives, and they are happy knowing that she not only gained her heavenly wings, but also a pair of good looking legs, beautiful toes, and she can now--once again--enjoy her long walks by the river.
