John B. (Jack) Mowatt, 86, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on September 2, 2017.
Jack was born on February 24, 1931 to John and Ruby Mowatt in Franklin, New Jersey. He retired from the US Air Force in 1972, where he served as a pilot, air traffic control officer, and a specialist in navigational aids. After retiring, he graduated from UMKC with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, then returned to receive his Master’s degree. Later he worked for the Jackson County Juvenile Court, the Veteran’s Bedside Network, and as the building supervisor of the Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, of which he was a long-standing member. Jack will be remembered for his willingness to help others, whether with his time or repair skills.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Peggy; and his grandson, Ryan. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorna Mowatt; his children: Beth (Russ) McKinney, Larry (Donna) Mowatt, Joel (Joyce) Mowatt, and Ellen (Jerry) Donovan; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward; and his sisters: Sally Stanley and Charlotte Kaufman.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 10:30 am, with visitation one hour prior to services at Grace United Methodist Church, 2400 SE 50th Hwy, Lees Summit, MO 64063. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or a Veteran’s organization of your choice.
