Esther M. Torode, 91, of Garden City (formerly Kansas City), passed away on July 27, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 1 at 11:00 am at Longview Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Stand-Up to Cancer or Alzheimer’s Research Center, 640 Jackson St, Saint Paul, MN 55101.
Esther was born September 2, 1924, in Festus, Missouri. She had a life-long career in nursing, working for Menorah and later at the VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas; her daughter, Donna Jean Wright; and several siblings. Esther is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Torode and son-in-law, John Eads; grandson, Richard Douglas Baker; great-granddaughter, Mariah Nicole Baker; her brother, Bob Gurnea; and her sister, Fern Bauer.
