Ellis was born on January 30, 1938, in Holden, Missouri, to Sidney and Edith (Capps) Luvin. His family lived in Greer, Idaho for several years before returning to Missouri, after which Ellis graduated from Stover High School. He subsequently served in the Army Reserves.

Ellis married Marilyn Kay Davis on June 18, 1966, and they made their permanent home in South Kansas City where they raised their four children. Ellis retired from General Motors after 31 years and was a proud member of UAW Local #93.

Ellis loved walking every day, gardening, scrapping, recycling and upcycling, and working on all the family vehicles. He had a woodburning stove that he liked to use even when the weather was warm, chopping his own wood as needed. He taught himself how to play the guitar and was known for his “Dad jokes.”

Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Edith Luvin; a brother, Linzey Luvin; and two sisters, Louise Kimball and Bonnie Vansell. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of nearly 59 years; four children and their spouses: Alaina (Manny) Romero, Laura (William) Hudson, Janel (Rob) Bowen, and David (Dawn) Luvin; grandchildren: Andrew (Kristina) Tierney, Christopher Tierney, Jennifer Romero, Josh (Chelsea) Romero, Sarah Hudson, Chloe Hudson, April (Paul) Rodriguez, Aaron Bowen, Nathan Luvin, and Abigail Luvin; 15 great grandchildren; siblings: Lebetta Whittle and Loretta Klindworth, Roy (Rose) Luvin, and Peggy Eckhoff; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ellis was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be missed dearly.
