ELEANORE (ELLY) M. SMITH
Eleanore and her twin brother Hugh were born May 20, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to John Madden and Sarah Conwell Madden.
Eleanore was preceded in death by her parents and Raymond Neary (step-father), her husband Leo D. Smith, and two sons Leo D. Smith Jr, and Christopher J. Smith, and brothers Hugh and John.  Eleanore is survived by two sons, and two daughters. Bruce J. Smith, and his wife Tahne of Carthage, MO. Son Andrew J. Smith, and his wife Becky of Kansas City, Mo. Ellen McLaughlin and her husband Gary of Lee’s Summit, Mo. Frances Golder, and her husband Gary of Kansas City, Mo. She is also survived by her daughter in law Patricia Smith of Grandview, MO, and her sister Maureen Deakin of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Also, survived by her former daughter in laws Kim, Kathy, and Maggie. Elly had 27 grandchildren and was very proud of each and every one of them, and had 16 great grandchildren that she thought that were the greatest things in life ever. Elly was also survived by two nieces, two nephews, and three great nieces, and one great nephew
Elly and her family moved to New Jersey in 1941, she attended school in Middletown Township. Elly worked as a waitress at the Molly Pitcher Inn, and also at Howard Johnsons. Elly enjoyed quiz shows, police stories, and history. She loved playing trivial pursuit and sitting and talking with family. Elly always had fun no matter where she was or what she was doing!!
Elly and Leo were married 54 ½ years when Leo passed going on ahead of her. They were married June 2, 1946 in St. Mary’s Rectory, New Monmouth NJ. Elly met Leo when he was stationed at Fort Monmouth NJ. He was a corporal in the U. S. Army. It was in January 1946 in Red Bank, NJ where she met him. One look at him and she was smitten and forever meant to be his, Leo was from St. Louis, MI. Leo and Elly moved to Kansas City, MO in 1973. Elly worked for the Hickman Mills School in the cafeteria and at St. Joseph Hospital as a food service employee. Elly was dearly love by so many family and friends and she will be missed forever.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2015 from 10 AM-12 PM at Longview Funeral Home. Services will follow at 12 PM with burial in Longview Cemetery. Arrangements by Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S. Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149, 816-761-6272.
