Dorothy Bowman

Dorothy Maxine (Yarnell) Bowman, 87, of Independence, MO passed away on February 26, 2021. She was born on January 4, 1934 to Floyd and Mary (Winebrenner) Yarnell in Clarksburg, Missouri.   She attended East High School in Kansas City Missouri.  She and Keith married Sept 14, 1951 and made their home in the Kansas City area for 65  years. Dorothy went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1957 as a Directory Assistance Operator, She later transferred within the Company to Frame Attendant and worked in a variety of Central Offices around the Metropolitan area. She retired in 1995 after 38 years of service.  She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and of the Eagles Lodge.  Dorothy enjoyed collectibles and had a large collection of Hummel figurines and Fenton Glass. She was close to her family and always enjoyed hearing about things going on with them and their travels.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Samuel Keith Bowman in 2017, sisters Madeline Casey, Donna Watring and a brother Leroy Yarnell.  She is survived by her children: Laurinda (Roger) Armer, Rhonda (Steve) Sullivan, and Keith (Laura) Bowman; her grandchildren: Jessica, Tracey, Lauralyn, Tiffany, Ashley, and Sam; her great-grandchildren: Michaela, Chandis, Emory, Kylee, Taylor, Brady, Jordie, Breck, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 1 – 2pm, with a service at 2pm at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 SE  Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to  Missouri Cancer Action  4010 S. Lynn Court, Independence, MO.  64055
