Doris Hooper

Doris Eileen Hooper, 91, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones on May 14, 2020. Doris was born on February 3, 1929 to Irl and Bernice Cross in Buffalo, MO. She grew up in Butler, MO where she met and married Virgil "Laverne" Hooper on May 1, 1953. From this marriage they had two children. Doris was a home maker and loved caring for her family. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, tending to her yard, growing tomatoes, and making her famous Orange Jello dessert. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Dale and Ralph Cross and Dorothy Cole. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Elaine (Gary) Downey and Dennis (Sandy) Hooper; grandchildren, Todd Downey, Erin (Wes) Shumate, and Sarah Hooper; great grandchildren, Stella, Hadley, and Cooper Shumate; and her sister-in-law, Pauline. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity. Private graveside services will be held at Longview Cemetery.
