Orville “Dennis” Long (Odie)
October 16, 1944 – March 17, 2025
Orville “Dennis” Long, lovingly known as Odie, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Born on October 16, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; his daughter, Tami Daniel (John Lusan); his cherished grandson, Cody Weitzel; and his brother, Frank Long. He was preceded in death by his parents and other loved ones who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
Dennis was a dedicated and hardworking man, spending 50 years as a union painter, proudly retiring from the Painters Union, District Council 3, after decades of service. His work ethic, reliability, and integrity earned him the respect of many throughout his career.
A true Kansas City sports fan, Dennis could always be found cheering for the Chiefs, Royals, and Mizzou Tigers. Whether it was game day excitement or the quiet focus of watching golf, sports brought him joy. But more than anything, Dennis was a family man. He loved nothing more than spending time with Sherry—whether it was shopping together or simply holding hands while watching TV.
To know Dennis was to love him. He had a smile always at the ready, and the words most often spoken about him were simple but true: “He was just a good guy.” His kindness, warmth, and easygoing spirit made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at noon, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12700 S Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149. Interment will take place immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Dennis’s memory by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity meaningful to you.
Dennis’s legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
