Mr. Delbert "Bill" Patterson

January 26, 1944 — December 8, 2011

Delbert William "Bill" Patterson, 67, of Lee's Summit, MO., passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by family after a 19 month battle with lung cancer. Bill was born on January 26, 1944 to the late Albert and Jewel Patterson of Warrensburg, MO. Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Patterson, daughter, Sheryl Yankee, two sons, William Brent Patterson and fiancée Manjushree Das, Troy Patterson and his wife Kristi, four grandchildren, Tanner, Joshua, Luke and Kylie, brother Marvin Patterson and a multitude of extended family and lifelong friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Jewel Patterson, and his brother Joe. Bill attended Warrensburg high school then began work at Western Electric in 1962 where he retired 29 years later at the age of 47. During his time with AT&T Bill volunteered with the AT&T Pioneers by taking urban children fishing and participating in building projects for local charities. Bill was a doer; his talents included a knack for fixing what was broke and home improvements. Many friends and families only have to look around their homes to see the impact of his skills and generosity. His passions included traveling in his RV and fishing. Through these hobbies he built a group of lifelong friends that he regarded as family. He enjoyed many travels with his family and friends from cross country vacations to recent trips to Canada and Texas. Bill collected many tools and toys over the years, but his true treasures were his wife, children, friends and especially his 4 grandchildren. His impromptu magic tricks, easy sense of humor, storytelling and kid at heart attitude made him a Grandfather that they truly love. He will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be remembered as a man who lived a blessed life and died with no regrets. The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the support of friends and family over the last 19 month, the Kansas City Cancer Institute, Lees Summit Hospital and the Kansas City Hospice House for the excellent care they provided. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, December 12 at Longview Memorial Gardens, 12700 Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149. A funeral and burial will follow immediately at noon. (Arr. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home 816-761-6272)
