David Daniel Martin, 83, of Lake Winnebago, Mo., passed away at home on November 22, 2018.
David was born on August 26, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., to Daniel and Bernadine Martin. David was a lifelong area resident, attending St. Peter's School in Kansas City as a boy and later Southwest High School, where he graduated in 1952.
At the University of Kansas, David was president of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Interfraternity Council before graduating from KU in 1956. He served as staff sergeant at the 325th General Hospital of the US Army Reserves in Kansas City until 1963.
He worked in industrial engineering for several years at Boeing in Wichita, Kan., and Western Electric in Lee's Summit, Mo., before starting a 25-year career in insurance sales. After retiring, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Grandview, Mo., for 12 years.
David was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Janet Ann Martin, of Kansas City. He leaves his wife, Sharon Martin; his daughter, Theresa Shepard (Rick); his son, Paul Martin (Emilia); his grandchildren: Lauren Stookey (Daniel), Jacob Shepard, Carmen Martin and David I. Martin; and great-granddaughter, Everly Stookey. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lee's Summit on Friday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m., with visitation at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery, Kansas City. Memorial donations are suggested to Harvesters or Salvation Army.
