Christel A. Schmidt 85, formally of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Manor Care of Overland Park, Ks. A visitation for friends will be Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the D.W Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Inurnment at later date. Christel Schmidt was born April 30, 1922. In East Prussia. She worked as a Red Cross nurse during WWII. After WWII, Christel married Herbert G. Schmidt, an engineer with Opal in Germany (a General Motors division). Then working for GM, Herb's career took them to many exciting places. Christel became quite good at packing up the household and moving everything they owned from country to country. From Germany, their first move was to the United States, then Brazil, Mexico, Iran to Detroit, MI, back to Germany, then finally back to Detroit again, until Herb retired in 1986. Their final move was to Lee's Summit, MO, to be near their two sons and their families. Christel was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Schmidt 1999. Survived by sons Wolfgang H. Schmidt and his spouse Mary, and Klaus W. Schmidt and his wife Cynthia, of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren Adam and Eric Schmidt, and a sister, Gertrud Sauvant of Germany. Because Christel loved animals, the family asks in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Rd., Yorktown Heights, Ny. 10598. (Arr.
