Chester F. “Chet” Alumbaugh, Jr., 92, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on September 19, 2017.
Chester was born on February 27, 1925 in rural Lamar, Missouri to Chester F. Alumbaugh, Sr. and Mable Elsie (Heisten) Alumbaugh. He began his career with a partnership in Fairyland Park in Kansas City, then he moved to Wichita, Kansas for 3 years in a partnership, and then went on to manage Wonderland Arcade for 28 years and A&W Root Beer Walk-in in Kansas City. He will be remembered for his love for horses. He had two prize winning horses, one in the Sedalia Fair and one at the American Royal. Chet was a member of the Masonic Scottish Rite Shriners. He had a love for traveling, making it to all 50 States, the Caribbean, and 7 other countries. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1946, which led to being involved in the battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines.
Chet is preceded in death by his 4 brothers, all of whom served in the military during wartime and returned home; and his sister, Imogene Miller. He is survived by his wife, D. Juanita of 68 years; his sons: Craig (Mary Beth) Alumbaugh of Lee’s Summit and Kevin (Liz) Alumbaugh of Black Hawk, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Bonnie (Dick) Tesh of Joplin, Missouri; and nephew, Clayton Lee (Queta) Alumbaugh of Houston, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept 22nd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23rd at 1:00 pm at Longview Chapel Christian Church, 850 Longview Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Longview Chapel Christian Church in Chet’s name.
