Charles William Kroog, Jr. passed into eternity on December 5, 2009. He was 86.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12.
Mr. Kroog was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from North Plainfield High School and attended Rutgers University. He was an outstanding baseball and basketball player throughout high school, college and his honorable service to the United States Army, and later pitched for a semi-pro baseball team in Northern New Jersey. Mr. Kroog also served as a member of the 240th M.P. Battalion Presidential guard in Hyde Park, N.Y., and later served as Honor Guard at Fort Jackson, S.C. during World War II.
Mr. Kroog was married in East Orange, New Jersey to Betty Ellis Ames, and together they became proud parents of their three children, Daniel A. Kroog of Kansas City, MO; Linda Kroog Dahl of Laguna Hills, CA; and Elizabeth V. Ehrett of Lee’s Summit, MO.
During his 40 years at Lorillard Corporation, Mr. Kroog rose from the rank of Sales Rep in Newark, N.J. to Regional Sales Manager in Kansas City, MO. The promotions required transfers to Little Rock, AR and Tampa FL. His hobbies included bridge, golf, volunteering at church and in his community, and using his artistic skills for various endeavors.
In addition to his wife and three children, Mr. Kroog is survived by his brother and sister in law, Fred and Jeanette Kroog of Amery WI and Sun City, FL; his nieces Jill Gates, Cherrie Sherblom, Meg Sullivan, Becky Elbing and Rachel Kroog, his nephews Roger Gates and David Kroog and their children. He was particularly proud of his 4 grandchildren, Barrett, Kelsey, Marissa, Jackson and his new great grandson, Harper.
