Charles Rex Hazelton, age 82, passed away on October 28, 2007. Rex was born on March 8, 1925 in Greensburg, PA. His twin sister died at a young age. Rex was raised in the Cumberland, Maryland area. His mother was the oldest of 10 children and Rex spent the happiest years of his childhood surrounded by his mother's younger siblings, including Robert Miester, who was like a brother to Rex his entire life. Rex enlisted in the Navy during WWII at age 17. While in the service he was a Golden Gloves boxer. He married Kathleen Wilkerson in 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. Rex was devoted to Kathleen during their 56 years of marriage and was a wonderful father to their four children. Rex was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and took his family on a major camping vacation each summer. He was also a great Detroit Tigers fan and loved to slip away with his sons to afternoon and evening Tigers' games. In 1986, Rex retired after 30 years with the Detroit Edison Company. In 1987, he and Kathleen moved to Raintree Lake, Lee's Summit, Missouri, where he fished Monday-Friday, tended a large garden and played poker once a week at the Clubhouse. He and Kathleen took many memorable vacations. Rex was a member of the Lions and Aldersgate Methodist Church. He volunteered regularly with the Salvation army and Meals on Wheels. Rex and Kathleen made many dear friends in Missouri. Two of Rex's most treasured friends were Ray Dugan, now deceased, and David Wilkerson, of Lake Winnebago. Rex is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his four children, Stephanie Hazelton of Kansas City, David Hazelton of Annandale, Virginia, Deborah Linskey of Creve Coeur, Missouri, Richard Hazelton of Pinckney, Michigan, and nine beautiful grandchildren.
