Mrs. Charlene Shultz-Burbee

d. January 12, 2012

Charlene K. Shultz-Burbee, 67, Belton, MO, died January 12, 2012, at her home surrounded by loving family and friends. A celebration of Char's life will be held Monday, January 16, at Lee's Summit United Methodist Church with visitation at 4:30pm and the service starting at 5:00pm. In 1966, Charlene married Kerry S. Shultz. Kerry and Char resided in the Grandview/Lee's Summit area for the entirety of their marriage. While raising their daughter, Robin, Charlene was active in all school activities and Grandview city government. As Robin got older, Char began an 8yr career working at Crews Jewelry. She genuinely loved and cared for everyone she met and was a "Mom" to so many. In 1993, she became an ecstatic grandmother for the first time and added to that joy in 1996 when her second granddaughter was born. For both Kerry and Charlene, their granddaughters, Katie and Sammi, were their pride and joy. The time they spent fishing, boating and playing cards with their family and friends was Char's favorites. Kerry and Char were married for 36 years until his death in 2002. After Kerry's death Char joined the staff of Lee's Summit United Methodist Church and found her spiritual purpose in life helping others. In 2004, Charlene married David L. Burbee, Jr. Dave always said he had found the love of his life in Char. They retired to Bella Vista, AR where they were highly involved in many community and charitable works, as well as, golfing, dancing and enjoying many newfound friends. Charlene loved nothing more than to have the satisfaction of organizing an event that would benefit children in need. She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Robin (Tom) Davin; granddaughters, Katie and Samantha Davin; sister, Donna (Bill) Prather; exchange daughter, Anne L'Ortye and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially her best friend, Judi McKarnin. She is also survived by David's children, David (Lori) Burbee and their children Olivia, Dawson, and Gage and Davin (Tiearra) Burbee and their children Drake, Taylor, and Daegon whom Char embraced in love as her own. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or Grace Hospice. (Cremation arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Longview Funeral Home 12700 S. Raytown Rd. Kc. Mo. 816-761-6272)
