Benny Montemore, 92, of Raytown, Missouri, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 28, 2018. The daughter of the late Elton and Hattye McMurry, she was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Bentonville, Arkansas.
After graduating from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO., she married her husband, the late Raymond “Ray” Montemore, on April 19, 1946.
After Ray was deployed to China, Benny moved to Kansas City, MO., to live with her sister, Betty. When Ray returned from service, the couple started a family and remained in Kansas City for the rest of their lives. They had three children: Chris Montemore; Nancy Acton; and the late Roger Montemore.
Benny worked for the IRS for 20 years, retiring in 1990. An active member of the Community Christian Church and a sister in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, she volunteered at the Kansas City VA hospital.
Benny is survived by two children: Chris Montemore (Raytown, MO); and Nancy Acton (Lee’s Summit, MO); her siblings: Betty Wendt (Houstonia, MO); Charlene Musser (St. Joseph, MO); and Thomas McMurry (St. Joseph, MO); and by her grandchildren: Matthew Montemore; Bryce Acton; and Blake Acton.
Benny is remembered by hundreds more and forgotten by none.
Burial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Longview Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018. A visitation will be held afterwards between 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Community Christian Church (located on the Plaza), with a memorial service following at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Benny requested a donation made to either Kansas City Hospice or the Community Christian Church.
